| From pre-school to college, Austin is Someplace Special to pursue educational opportunities. The The Austin Public Schools operates four elementary buildings - Banfield, Neveln, Southgate and Sumner - housing kindergarten through fifth grade programs. Ellis Middle School is home to our sixth, seventh and eighth grade students. Austin High School offers comprehensive programming for grades nine through 12. Also housed at the high school is our Alternative Learning Center. Woodson, a community center, houses Early Childhood Family Education programs, preschool special education programs, Kids Corner childcare, and adult basic education classes.  The goal of Austin Public Schools is success for all students, no matter what it takes. In order to reach the varying needs of our students, Austin Public Schools has multiple programs for special needs, high potential and English language learners. Our district has an excellent fine arts program including an outstanding 5-12 orchestra program, K-12 choral program, 5-12 band program and a superior visual arts program. KSMQ-TV, KSMQ Public Television is Southern Minnesota's local public television station serving people from Mankato to Mason City and Fairbault to Winona. The 33-year-old station is licensed to the Board of Directors of Southern Minnesota Quality Broadcasting, Inc. which is a community board consisting of representatives from throughout the region. KSMQ is committed to providing lifelong learning opportunities that are educational and entertaining for people of all ages. The Austin Catholic School system operates a K-12 system, teaching Christian values along with traditional subject matter. There is also an excellent Lutheran elementary school serving Austin.  You’ll find educational value at Riverland Community College. Locations in Albert Lea, Austin and the new Owatonna College & University Center make it easy to complete one of more than 50 career programs or earn the first two years of a bachelor’s degree. Support services are available to help students improve study skills, locate resources, address personal issues, make strong career decisions, pay for college, or arrange the details of a smooth college transfer. Opportunities in theater, music, clubs, intercollegiate sports and student government provide an easy way to meet new friends, share talents and make dreams happen.  In every program, students access current, state-of-the-art technologies. Interactive Television and online classes make learning convenient. The Training and Development division works closely with local business and industry to assess needs and train employees. Business Management Education Programs work on site at farms and small businesses to help students learn business and financial management and reach their business goals.
