Philosophy of the Austin Park and Recreation Department - Provide for the citizens of Austin the most effective and efficient department for the dollars spent.

Mission Statement - Develop and maintain a comprehensive recreation program for all ages and to maintain all parks, equipment and public trees within the park system and public areas.

Austin Park and Recreation Department expects our supervisors and coaches to set a good example for participants and fans to follow, exemplifying the highest moral and ethical behavior. Please notify us if you observe behavior contrary to this statement.

PARK INFORMATION

PET RESTRICTIONS Pets are not allowed in: Todd, Marcusen, Morning Lions, Shirley Theel, Nature Center, or Lafayette. Pets are allowed in other parks with the following restrictions: pets must be on a leash and the owner must clean up after their pet.

PET EXERCISE AREAS Areas have been established at the following locations: east of Marcusen Stadium and south of 9 Avenue SE, the area west of St. John's Church, north of 13 Avenue and west of 12 Street NW, the north end of Eastside Lake and south of 8 Avenue NE from the bridge west, and Whittier Park at 3 Avenue SE and 6 Street SE. In these areas pets may be off their leash but must be under control of their owners at all times.

PARK RULES Parks are closed from 10:30 pm to 7 am. No camping, no driving or parking on the grass, no glass, no hitting golfing balls. Speed limit is 15 mph. For your safety and the safety of others please follow these rules. Violations of this ordinance can carry up to a $700 fine.

BANDSHELL If a group would like to use the Bandshell they must fill out a request form at the Office. Electricity is available - if used there will be a $25 charge.

BURNING IN PARKS IS PROHIBITED A permit may be acquired at the Park and Recreation office to use the fire ring at Sutton Park. No fires in any park other than in grills for cooking.

WALKING PATHS There is a 1/2 mile walking path at Shirley Theel Memorial Park which was provided by the Austin Zontas. The Mill Pond Path is .88 of a mile and located on North Main.

SHELTERS Shelters are available at all parks on a first come, first served basis. NO RESERVATIONS ARE TAKEN. The Izaak Walton Cabin is available by reservation only.

DISC GOLF Located throughout Todd Park is a 18 Hole Disc Golf Course. If you are looking for something new and challenging grab your disc and give the course a try. Course maps and scorecards are available in our Office and also at the Izaak Walton Cabin. Disc Golf equipment may also be purchased at the Izaak Walton Cabin.

KEG PERMITS Permits are required for kegs in the parks. Permits are available in the Park and Recreation Office. There is a two week waiting period and a $10 fee. Cans are allowed without a permit. NO glass.

**NO GLASS IS ALLOWED IN ANY CITY PARK!**

 

EQUIPMENT RENTAL

The Park and Recreation Department has several different sets of equipment available to rent. Deposits are returned when equipment is checked in. Equipment may be checked out during regular office hours beginning Thursday afternoons on a first come first served basis for the weekend.

Volleyball Kits

This kit includes a ball, net, and easy to set up poles that screw into the ground. This is available for $5 rental plus a $15 deposit.

Volleyball Net & Ball

Rental for these items is $2 plus a $3 deposit. No poles are included.

Picnic Kits

These kits are available on a check out basis for group gatherings. Picnic kit rental is $5 plus a $15 deposit. Kits include: softball bats and balls, Frisbees, a football, a soccer ball, a volleyball net and ball. A horseshoe set is also available with the kit at no extra charge.

Horseshoe Set

Horseshoe sets are available to rent for $2 and a $5 deposit. Comes in an easy carry canvas bag.

Yolf

This is a new and exciting game combining skills from croquet and golf. Available with a handy carrying case and it can be set up anywhere. Design your own course! Rental is $5 plus a $15 deposit.

Croquet

Good old fashion fun in your own backyard! We have a professional croquet kit for you to rent, $5 rental and $15 deposit. Complete with a carrying bag.

Disc Golf Kits

Kits contain 1 putter, 5 assorted discs, a carrying bag, scorecards, and a map for the course in Todd Park. Rental is $5 with a $40 deposit. Also available when the Todd Park Driving Range is open.

Canoe Rental at the Hormel Nature Center

Available for use on Dobbins Creek and East Side Lake. Half day rental is $6 per canoe. Rental season is June 2 - August 30. No canoe rental on Sundays.

NO REFUNDS Refunds will not be issued, unless a program or activity is canceled by the Park and Recreation Department due to insufficient registration.

CANCELLATIONS Listen to KAUS 99.9 FM, KAUS 1480 AM, or call 433-1881 for a recorded message about cancellations.

REVERSIBLE TANKS We have reversible tank tops available in our Office. We use these in our programs, instead of t-shirts. This tank can be used in all our programs. It is optional if you wish to purchase one.

ADULTS LOOKING FOR A TEAM If you haven't found a volleyball team to play with by the team registration deadline don't worry...teams can add players for a short time after games begin. We will assist you by posting your name, phone number, and level or night you wish to play in our Office. Manager lists are also available. Just call or stop in for more information.
